DIY MEGA MOISTURIZING LIP BALM

With so many varieties of lip balm out there, it’s often difficult to find that one perfect balm. The one that has the perfect scent, the perfect texture, and the perfect list of ingredients (free of chemicals). So if we can’t find the perfect lip balm, why not make it?

This DIY lip balm recipe is surprisingly simple and fun. I felt like a chemist in my kitchen concocting the perfect flavor and color combination, and the end result is more than worth the extra effort. Gather up some beeswax and shea butter, and get ready for some mega moisturized lips!

Here’s what you’ll need:
1 tablespoon beeswax pellets (I purchased mine on Amazon, but I have also seen beeswax at select Walmart and JoAnn Fabrics locations.)
1 tablespoon pure shea butter (Another Amazon purchase)
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
10-15 drops essential oils
A sprinkle of Kool-Aid powder for color and flavor (optional)

There are quite a few options in terms of oils you can include in this lip balm recipe. For chapped lips, try eucalyptus or peppermint. Or if you’d like something a bit more soothing, try lavender or vanilla.

1. Using a double-boiler or a heat-safe bowl set over a pot of simmering water, melt beeswax, shea butter, and almond oil together. Stir until well blended.

2. Once the ingredients are blended, remove from heat and add in your essential oils.

3. Transfer the liquid to a large container with a pour spout, and then divide it among four 1/2 oz jars or tins. (Work quickly, as the balm will start to solidify.)

4. Let the balms cool for about an hour. Once they feel solid and cool to the touch, they are ready to use.

If you try out this recipe, I’d love to hear how it went in the comments below! We’d also love to see your homemade lip balm photos on social media!
